Since the formation of Walsall Lions Club in 1974, the following are some of the notable achievements in both service to the community and donations to charitable organisations; Service Achievements The Walsall Lions ‘Message in a Bottle’ scheme has now distributed over 7000 containers both directly and via local social services organisations in and around Walsall. This scheme supplies small containers to vulnerable folk who can fill in details of their medication and other information inside the container which is then placed in a known location in their home, usually the fridge. A small notice indicating the location of the container is supplied and placed where the local paramedics or care workers can easily see it should it become necessary. This scheme is so popular that Walsall Lions are now having to work really hard to keep up with demand!! For over 21 years Walsall Lions sponsored and organised a highly successful ‘Sports Day for the Disabled’ in conjunction with Birmingham Sports Club for the Disabled & Brownhills Community Association. Disabled athletes came from all over the Midlands to participate in this highly successful annual event. Local Charitable Donations by Walsall Lions In addition to funding the above ‘Message in a Bottle’ and Sports Days activities, recent charitable donations made by Walsall Lions have included the following local organisations, Walsall Scouts Group, Great Wyrley High School to assist music students, Walsall Samaritans, The Red Cross, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Great Barr Girl Guide Rangers and the Mayor of Walsall’s Charity (Acorn’s Hospice) appeal. For many years Walsall Lions have contributed to Activity Holidays at Bryntisilio in Wales for disadvantaged children of Walsall. Click for Achievements (2)
