Walsall Lions are also aware of needs further afield and have made donations to such causes as Special Olympics for disabled people. In particular over the past few years Lions have made an extra special effort to try to prevent blindness throughout the world and Walsall Lions have made a significant donation towards a campaign called ‘Campaign SightFirst 2’ which internationally has already raised around £75million. Over the life of the Lions International Campaign SightFirst project, over 80 million treatments have been provided for river blindness, 7 million cataract operations carried out and 27 million people have avoided serious vision loss. The statistics are amazing.

Walsall Lions have helped others raise thousands of pounds for Macmillan Nurses and Alexandra Rose.

Way back on March 19th 1978 hospital radio first came to the Manor Hospital . It was originally called ‘Radio Lions’ as the station was set up by Walsall Lions Club.  Broadcasts took place every Sunday morning between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm with a converted bathroom on the top floor of Salisbury ward being the station’s first home.

We support many specialist health and drug awareness programs. Over a period of 20 years Walsall Lions have held many quizzes for the Visually Impaired.

Walsall Lions Club assisted in the production of a ‘Braille Map’ of Walsall to assist the visually impaired of Walsall.

The ever-popular Santa’s Christmas Float, which tours Walsall every festive season, is owned and organised by Walsall Lions Club.

Jane Lane & Brewer Street Adult Day Centre have all been helped to buy equipment using donations from Walsall Lions.

Walsall Mencap, Acorns Hospice and the Sister Dora Appeal are some of the charities that have received many thousands of pounds in help over the years.
